About Susie

biography and career

Biography

Susie McMeekin is a potter with some 40+ years’ experience. She works with porcelain and stoneware firing in both gas and wood fired kilns. Her deep and abiding interest lies with the Asian traditions and the purity and simplicity of shape and glaze. She makes all her own glazes crushing and grinding rocks to produce her palette. This is very labour intensive but gives the glorious and unique results she is seeking.

Susie started potting in 1978 with her father Ivan McMeekin at his workshop in Sydney. She then moved to the Blue Mountains and set up a workshop there. In 20017 she built a new workshop and in 2018 completed a new wood fired kiln.

Susie has travelled to various countries representing Australia in the field of ceramics.
